Mountainous Upland Series Gallery

This series of paintings on handmade paper from Laos reflects the need to withdraw from worldly affairs and take refuge in nature. Together I, II, III & IV form the design for Dogstar’s silk organza textiles, part of Masayo Yasuki’s Laika Summer 2016 range.

In the tradition of Chinese landscape painting, Hooper departs from realism in her depiction of landscape to convey a sense of spiritual energy. The themes of reclusion and resonance with nature are captured in the Mountainous Upland series, tempting the potential recluse with boundlessly charmed spaces in which he or she might enter.
