This Friday I look forward to giving a lecture at the Education Centre in Jingdezhen. This is an opportunity to share with the artistic and wider community my work and practice. However it is also an opportunity to talk about my experience of working within Jingdezhen’s Ceramic Centre as an international artist in residence.
As a resident here, at the Pottery Workshop, I have come to understand a completely different way of working. Almost every aspect of what I have done here has been undertaken with local and visiting members of this artistic community.
In my lecture I will speak about overcoming language barriers and the challenges of learning foreign systems, procedures and new techniques.
I will also speak of the enriching experience that comes with such an opportunity and how I have artistically grown and found my whole way of conceiving and producing work has been affected. I have essentially adapted and grown as an artist as a result of this artist residency and am incredibly grateful to the community that has made this possible.
